Large Format Photography

Current Instructor: Scott Stallings

Cost: $375 Members, $435 Non Members

In this unique two-weekend workshop led by Scott Stallings, students will dive into the fine art and technical mastery of large format photography. Large format photography is generally defined as having a film size of 4 x 5 or larger, with the most common sizes being 4 x 5 and 8 x 10. Larger film areas mean the maximum amount of detail and information can be captured. Larger film means more resolution and image quality. Many large format cameras also give the photographer more control over various aspects of the image than other cameras, allowing for greater creative freedom. We hope you’ll join us to learn about large format photography, which is the ultimate photographic format.

Weekend #1 will cover:

Parts of the camera, camera design including:
    • Front and rear camera standards
    • Rail/bed camera supports
    • Ground glass
    • Bellows
    • Lens
Selecting a camera:
    • Camera types
    • Lenses
Optical principles, including:
    • Camera movements
    • Perspective control
    • Focus control
    • Shooting procedures

All-day photographing / fieldwork

Weekend #2 will cover:

Review of weekend #1
Continued fieldwork if needed
