Intro to Film/Darkroom

Cost: $300 Members, $380 Non Members
In this Black and White Film Photography and Darkroom Developing Class, students will dive into the artistic and technical aspects of black and white photography. The course will cover:
- Film Basics: Understanding different types of black and white film, including ISO ratings, grain structure, and their aesthetic effects.
- Camera Techniques: Learning how to operate a film camera, including exposure settings, metering, composition, and focusing techniques specific to black and white photography.
- Shooting in Black and White: Developing a “seeing in black and white” mindset to effectively capture images that utilize contrast, texture, and tonal range.
- Darkroom Practices: Introduction to darkroom equipment and safety protocols. Students will learn how to load film into developing tanks, mix chemicals, and control developing times to achieve desired results.
- Print Development: Techniques for enlarging negatives and creating prints in the darkroom, including contrast control, dodging, and burning techniques to enhance the final image.
- Critical Evaluation: Learning how to critique and analyze photographs for composition, technical proficiency, and emotional impact.
- Creative Projects: Engaging in hands-on projects that encourage personal expression and exploration of themes through black and white imagery.
Throughout the class, students will gain practical skills, artistic insights, and a deeper appreciation for the medium of film photography.
Cancelation Policy
The Light Factory reserves the right to cancel, combine, or reschedule courses to adjust for enrollment and to change course instructors when necessary. If The Light Factory cancels a course for any reason, each registered participant will be informed as soon as possible and will have the opportunity to transfer to another course.
Fees must be paid at the time of registration. You must cancel a minimum of five days before the course start date to receive a refund. No refunds will be made for canceling on the day of the course or after the course has started.
The Light Factory does not offer make-up courses or tuition reimbursement for student absenteeism. This policy applies to all students of all ages, including adults.
