Building a Portfolio

Take your photography from practice to professional with this hands-on portfolio building workshop. Designed for photographers ready to showcase their work, this course will guide you through the process of curating, refining, and presenting a compelling portfolio tailored to your creative vision and career goals.

Whether you’re aiming to apply to art schools, pitch to clients, or launch your photography business, you’ll receive expert feedback, peer critiques, and creative direction to help you select your strongest images, develop cohesive visual storytelling, and craft a portfolio that stands out.

What You’ll Learn:

  • How to curate a cohesive and impactful body of work
  • Techniques for sequencing and layout
  • Developing a personal photographic style or theme
  • Preparing portfolios for different platforms (print, web, social media)
  • Writing an artist statement and bio
  • Presentation tips for client meetings or reviews

What You’ll Need:

  • A collection of 20–30 edited images (can be in-progress work)
  • Basic knowledge of photography principles and editing tools
  • Laptop or tablet (for digital review/editing)

Outcomes:
By the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with a polished, professional portfolio ready to share with schools, clients, galleries, or your online audience—plus the confidence and clarity to talk about your work with purpose.

Cancelation Policy

The Light Factory reserves the right to cancel, combine, or reschedule courses to adjust for enrollment and to change course instructors when necessary. If The Light Factory cancels a course for any reason, each registered participant will be informed as soon as possible and will have the opportunity to transfer to another course.

Fees must be paid at the time of registration. You must cancel a minimum of five days before the course start date to receive a refund. No refunds will be made for canceling on the day of the course or after the course has started.

The Light Factory does not offer make-up courses or tuition reimbursement for student absenteeism. This policy applies to all students of all ages, including adults.
