The Expressive Portrait

Cost: $350

The workshop will teach methods of how to focus on conveying the subject’s emotions and personality, rather than capturing a photographic likeness. Participants will explore how to create a comfortable atmosphere so your subject can relax and you capture a portrait that speaks to mood, personality, and life experiences. Technical and lighting cues that allow subjects to reflect on their inner state.

The initial classes will bring to participants the skill of how to develop and sharpen the skill of “being with people”. How to approach your sitter and establish closeness and develop an “intimacy” that allows your camera to get beyond the shields which everyone develops when faced with a camera. Then you will be given an assignment with two weeks to complete. The assignment will be to create at least two intimate portraits. Titus Heagins, Instructor, is willing to accompany participants to create their final project portraits. The portraits will be critiqued by the instructor.

Requirements: Good knowledge of your camera. Ability to photograph in manual mode, eagerness to learn!

Cancelation Policy

The Light Factory reserves the right to cancel, combine, or reschedule courses to adjust for enrollment and to change course instructors when necessary. If The Light Factory cancels a course for any reason, each registered participant will be informed as soon as possible and will have the opportunity to transfer to another course.

Fees must be paid at the time of registration. You must cancel a minimum of ﬁve days before the course start date to receive a refund. No refunds will be made for canceling on the day of the course or after the course has started.

The Light Factory does not offer make-up courses or tuition reimbursement for student absenteeism. This policy applies to all students of all ages, including adults.
