Beyond the Frame

Beyond the Frame, a year-long cooperative lab organized by The Light Factory, aims to foster a creative community of women photographers. Participants will meet approximately once a month and have access to The Light Factory’s darkroom, digital printing lab, and lighting studio.

In addition, selected artists will have opportunities to attend workshops that occur throughout the year. Participants should be looking to develop new creative work over the course of the next calendar year. The Light Factory is seeking applicants willing to explore a variety of photographic processes and approaches with the goals of artistic growth and technical breadth in mind.

Eligibility:
Applicants must be at least 21 years old and reside within the greater Charlotte, North Carolina, metro region. They cannot be enrolled in a degree-seeking program. Selected artists should be committed to fostering a creative community and attending Beyond the Frame events throughout the year.

Selection Process:
Interested artists are invited to submit an application by September 29, 2017. Please email info@lightfactory.org with a brief letter of interest and a PDF that includes:

  • Your name and contact information
  • A brief (no more than 500 words) essay detailing
why you would like to participate and what
you hope to gain from Beyond the Frame
  • A short bio or CV (no more than two pages)
  • Five to seven images of current work

Please include the above in one PDF sized at 5 MB or less.
