Camera Obscura

Wednesday, July 22 / 6 – 8 pm

Instructor: Herman Nicholson
Cost: $20 Members, $35 Non Members

This summer’s newest online learning program, the Alternative Process Workshop + Demo Series, is a choose your own adventure experience. You have two options, to take the series as workshops or as demos. Throughout the series, each instructor will provide an optional materials list so you can purchase materials and join in like you would if participating in a workshop, or you can skip the materials list and tune in for a demo-like experience. Either approach gives you the opportunity to meet photographers and enthusiasts that are interested in alternative processes and ask questions along the way.

Explore the Platinum Palladium printing process at home in this two-part workshop with local Artist Caroline Waterman. In this workshop, you will learn how to set up a dim room, what equipment you will need, and the various chemicals and paper necessary to make your own Platinum Palladium prints at home. You can use your previously made digital negatives from week 1, or you can use actual film negatives, for this beautiful 19th-century process. In this class, you will learn how to prepare the paper and mix and apply the chemicals, and finally how the development and clearing process works.  If you are looking to take your digital images to another level, learning this handmade process is an excellent way to create beautiful archival prints.
