The Romance of the Road: Photographs in Search of the Promised Land
Photographs by: Maureen France, Richard Gilles, Bryce Lankard, Amy Stein, Pamela Springsteen; Video installation by Charles Woodman
January 11 – April 11, 2010 in the Knight Gallery
The Romance of the Road takes a close look at the continued fascination America has for getting in a car and driving across the country. The images selected will concentrate on the experiences, relationships, and discoveries—both good and bad—that may unfold on the open road. It will also investigate the economics of driving in the 21st century, especially with today’s high gas prices.

Connecting Students across North Carolina through photography and poetry
January 17 – April 28, 2010 in the Middleton McMillan Gallery
The Light Factory took Charlotte students on an artistic journey through North Carolina, east of 1-95 to photograph, write, and interact with partner students in the area. The experience expanded each student’s knowledge and understanding of North Carolina and the people who share this state, and broadened their skills in photography and creative writing.
