Members’ Show

. . .

Thursday, Nov. 29 – Fri Jan. 4, 2019
Opening Reception / Thursday, Nov. 29, 6:30 – 8:30 pm

An annual tradition, the Members’ Show serves as a valuable showcase for our members’ work, all while commemorating their contributions to our organization. Each member of The Light Factory can submit one piece, which must be matted, framed, and ready to hang. Cash prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places. In our opinion, it’s the best possible way to close out the calendar year.

Voices from the Photo League:
Sonia Handelman Meyer and George Gilbert

. . .

Thursday, Jan. 17 – Friday, March 15
Opening Reception / Thursday, Jan. 17, 6:30 – 8:30 pm

Both Meyer and Gilbert were members of the illustrious Photo League (1936-1951) in New York during the 1940s. They focused their lenses on the city’s lively street life, neighborhoods, and citizens, creating photographs that convey their sensitivity to broader, humanitarian issues. This exhibition offers a unique opportunity to learn about social documentary and its place in the politics of the post-war era through the eyes of two talented witnesses.

Magic Show:
Photographs by Carol Golemboski

. . .

Thursday, Jun. 6 – Friday, Aug. 2
Opening Reception / Thursday, Jun. 6, 6:30 – 8:30 pm

While photography is the only medium with a reputation for recording “truth,” it’s also notorious for its ability to deceive. In Magic Show: Photographs by Carol Golemboski, the photographer is a performer, one who creates tricks behind the curtain of the darkroom. This exhibition features images from Golemboski’s series on magic, as well as new work that utilizes vintage expired paper, alternative toning and photograms.
